The Order of the Sun is a contemporary reimagining of ceremonial regalia—one that severs ties from institutional religion while preserving the aura of reverence and power. Drawing from historical orders of chivalry and nobility, the piece re-centers solar imagery as a source of divine inspiration. The artist, Marcus Fontaine, employs a masterful palette of precious materials—Platinum, 24K Gold, Yellow Gold, Diamond, Ruby, Citrine, Carnelian, and Aquamarine—to invoke celestial grandeur.
The modular construction mimics the rigid hierarchies of traditional orders, yet the iconography speaks to cosmic, rather than ecclesiastical, authority. Central to the piece is a radiant solar emblem rendered in gemstone-studded rays, flanked by emblems that reflect both heraldic form and imaginative freedom. In this work, regalia is liberated from dogma and reclaimed as a celebration of light, life, and artistic sovereignty.
