Ever since I was little, I have always held a deep reverence and fascination with the cosmos. This sense of wonder sparked my desire to explore the topic further, and it became the perfect subject for this project.
For this necklace, I sought to represent the interconnectedness of the universe, blending my personal jewelry aesthetic with the skills I had developed throughout the course. The design aims to capture the fluid, continuous connections that bind everything in the cosmos, incorporating both abstract and organic elements that evoke the idea of a unified system.
The moodboard I created for this project reflects my ongoing fascination with the circle and the interconnectedness of all things within the universe. By combining multiple materials—specifically sterling silver wire and clear acrylic—I was able to create a piece that embodies this theme, while showcasing my unique interpretation of the cosmos in jewelry form.
The process of creating this necklace involved several intricate steps, including winding and cutting jump rings, placing, soldering, and flattening the links. These early techniques tested my soldering skills and allowed me to refine my craftsmanship. The later addition of laser cutting played a crucial role in bringing the abstract design to life, emphasizing the idea of interwoven connections while enhancing the overall structure of the piece.
This project, as my final for the first jewelry class, not only showcased my developing technical abilities but also allowed me to express my passion for the cosmos in a tangible, wearable form.
